 A Classical Manual of Hanafi Law

 

 He said: If a goat, dog or human dies in it, the entire water present in it is to be drawn out of it. The reason is that Ibn Abbas (1) and Ibn Zubayr (2) gave the decision to draw out the entire water when a zinji died in the well of Zam Zam (3).

(1) Abd Allah ibn ʿAbbas (c. 619 – 687 CE), also known as Ibn ʿAbbas, was one of the cousins of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

(2) Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (624 CE - 692), was the leader of a caliphate based in Mecca that rivaled the Umayyads from 683 until his death.

(3) The Zamzam Well is a well located within the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is located 20 m east of the Kaʿba, the holiest place in Islam.
