 The khawaja Badr al-Din Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Qasim

al Tahir (d1466-7)(1) travelled extensively in Egypt, the Yemen,
East Africa and India and gradually became the acknowledged
leader of the Meccan mercantile community. In addition he held
a Mamluk (2) appointment as supervisor of the Great Mosque.

Jamal al-Din, Judge Makdishoh. He died on Sunday, the sixth of Jumada al-Awwal, 844 AH (1440AD), in Makkah.
