Ibn Qudama al-Maqdisi: Al Muntakhab min eall al Khilal Safhatan

(The Group of all Sorts of Ailments) (d.1223AD)

Ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi Muwaffaq al-Din Abu Muḥammad Abd Allah b. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad (1147 – 1223AD), was a Sunni Muslim ascetic, jurisconsult, traditionalist theologian, and Sufi mystic. Ibn Qudamah was born near Jerusalem. He fought in Saladins Army during the battle to recapture Jerusalem in 1187. He settled down in Damascus in 1197. His hadith related to people of East Africa are not important.

14 - Told me the infallibility: Ibn Hanbal (1): Through Abu Abdullah: through Abdul Razak, from Mundhir bin al-Numan al'Aftas,

he said: I heard by going out from Ibn Abbas (4), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: out of the

Aden-Abyan (2) twelve thousand will be helped by Allah and His Messenger, they are better than between me and them.

 Abu Abdullah said: Mundhir bin al-Numan has our confidence, but this hadith is not his.

 

15 - Tell us the group said: I heard Yahya says: Muslim bin Mohammed is not saying all, tells about Hisham bin Erwa (5),

from his father, Aisha [said]: Beware of Zinj, they are a distorted creation. (3)

 

16 - Told me the infallibility: Ibn Hanbal (1): Through Abu Abdullah: through Sarij: Through Abdullah ibn Nafi, Through Ibn

Abi Dhiab, from Saleh the freed slave of al Taw'uma, from Abu Huraira (6), he said, he sat down to the Prophet (peace be

upon him), he said, the Messenger of God: Where are you from?  He said: Berbery.  He told him the Messenger of Allah

(peace be upon him): Teach me!  And we accept the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he said: Faith does not go

further than their throats.

 Abu Abdullah said: This is a modern evil.

As to the meat of the giraffe; it is compared to the camel (brfir), it is allowed to eat it.

This hadith is repeated by: Abu Nu’aym al Isfahani 1038; Abu Ubayd al Bakri 1067; Ibn Qudama al Maqdisi 1223; Ibn al Jawzi 1257; Ibn abd al Rahman al Mizzi 1342; al Dhahabi 1348; (and many others). Al Kulayni 939 was maybe the first to use it. Aisha: (614-678) was Muhammad's third and youngest wife.

(4) Ibn Abbas: Abd Allah Ibn Abbas: (c. 619– 687), also known simply as Ibn Abbas, was one of the cousins of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad.

(5) Hisham ibn Urwa: (c. 680–763) was a prominent narrator of hadith from Medinah.

(6) Abu Huraira: better known as Abu Hurayrah (603–680), was one of the companions of Islamic prophet Muhammad and, the most prolific narrator of hadith.
