The Messenger of God - (may God bless him and grant him peace) - said: Mecca is the sign of honor, and Medina is the metal of religion [and Kufa] (1) the strength of Islam, Basra is the pride of the worshipers, and the Levant is the metal of the righteous, and Egypt is the nest of Satan, his cave and his stable and Sindh (2) is Murad Iblis (3), fornication is in Zinj and truthfulness in Nubia, Bahrain is the home of happiness, and Al Jazeera (4) is the mineral of lethality.

And with his chain of transmission to Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God - (may God bless him and grant him peace) - said: Mecca is the sign of honor, and Medina is the metal of religion, and Kufa (1) is the place of Islam and Basra, the pride of the worshipers, and the Levant is the home of the righteous, and Egypt is the nest of Satan and his cave and its stable, and fornication in the Zinj, and the truth in Nubia and Bahrain the home of happiness, and Al Jazeera is the mineral of lethality. And the people of Yemen have thin hearts, and the imams are from the Quraysh (5) and the masters of the people are Banu Hashem (6).

(1) Kufa: Kufah, is a city in Iraq, about 170 kilometres (110 mi) south of Baghdad.

(2) Sindh: now in Pakistan.

(3) Iblis: The devil in Islam.

(4) Al Jazeera: Jazira (Upper Mesopotamia).

(5) Quraysh: tribe of the Prophet Mohamed.

(6) Banu Hashem: The Banu Hashim is the clan of the Quraysh tribe to which the prophet Muhammad belonged.
