Abd al Basit ibn Khalil: Nayl al amal fi dhayl al-duwal  (The hope of the tail of states) (1490) Egypt

--------------------------------------------------

Abd al-Basit b. Khalil b. Shahin al-Malati (1440-1514AD). He was born in Malatya in Egypt. Abd al-Basit’s works that relate to the economy of the Mamluks for the period 1468AD until 1517AD are al-Rawd al-Basim fi Hawadith al-‘Umr wa al-Tarajim and Nayl al-Amal fi Dhayl al-Duwal. The tiny little details he gives about East African events are not found anywhere else.

Left as illustration only for the plague from a ms of Biruni.

The death of Sheikh Al-Maqdashi (3)

Sheikh Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Maqdishi died on this day.

There was goodness, worship, and righteousness in him, and he listened more to Muslim, according to Abdul Hadi. And it happened.

(1) Dahlak: island off the Eritrean coast.

(2) Ali ibn Yusuf ibn 'Umar ibn Anwar: this sultan of Mogadishu is mentioned in the Album Stephen list (see my webpage on Mogadishu Coins and Sultans.). This means he putted his name on the coins he had minted. Ibn Yusuf is also mentioned by Al-Sakhawi (1497); al Asqalani (d1448); Maqrizi (1441); Abd al Basit ibn Khalil (1490).

(3) Muhammad ibn Muhammad Al-Maqdashi (1314-1400): also mentioned by: Muhammad al Fasi (1430); Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (1448); Al-Sakhawi (1497); al Maqrizi (1441); Abd al Basit ibn Khalil (1490). But it is unsure that al-Maqdishi stands for Mogadishu.
